McWane Ductile New Jersey Helps Sponsor Bi-State Shad Fishing Contest

Last Saturday, April 25, was day three of the four-day Bi-State Shad Fishing Contest in Phillipsburg, New Jersey.  Team members from the McWane Ductile New Jersey (MDNJ) Recycling Committee were on hand to give away promotional items to attendees at the contest and cheer on the fishermen.

Andy Bank walked away with first prize money of $3,500 with the winning fish weighing in at 5.252 pounds.  The current world record is a whopping 11 pounds 4 ounces! About 250 people registered to fish in this year’s contest so competition was fierce in spite of the unusually cold Spring weather.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with Shad, the fish are not prized for their meat, but for their eggs, also known as shad roe. This event was started to help raise awareness about the wildlife that lives in and along the Delaware River.
